Directions to the Land
Tsegyalgar West is a 3,000-acre tropical drylands ranch in the mountains just northwest of San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico. It's 45 minutes north from the international airport (SJD). This ranch was given to Choegyal Namkhai Norbu and the Dzogchen Community by Peter and Alison Baumann in 2003. Since then, three retreats with Namkhai Norbu Rinpoche have taken place here in Baja Sur.
This vast property is an eco-reserve and we are pursuing re-forestation and soil creation. This remote area is perfect for solitary personal retreat, with support from our staff. You can come here to do your karma yoga and practice under the majestic fig trees.
Download the free version of Google Earth and see the central casita area at 23 13' 04.58" N 109 52'07.66"W.
Directions:
1.From the airport, drive your 4-wheel drive vehicle to the main highway, Carretera Transpeninsular 1.
2. Go over the overpass and curve around to the right, entering the main road and heading north.
3. You will see a pastel-colored concrete "subdivision" on the right.
4. Cross the bridge or "puente". You're still on the main and only road, which is paved.
5. Drive thru the little town of Santa Anita. You will know it by it's speed bumps or "topes".
6. Continue on this straight paved road. People drive aggressively so watch out for oncoming passing trucks.
7. On the left you will pass Caligas, the propane company.
8. On the left you will pass the prison, or Cereso. You can't see it from the road but the road has modern curbs at the entrance.
9. The road continues straight as an arrow. Watch the kilometer markers and look for km54.
10. At km54.3, turn left onto the very straight, long dirt road (see photo 1). The white mountain peak is in the distance to the left of the dirt road, which is called Ramal de Naranjos, but there may be no sign. If the paved highway begins to curve and go downhill, you've gone too far and missed your turnoff.
11. While going on the long straight dirt road you will pass a large cattle operation on the right. Keep going, approximately 10 miles or 13 kilometers.
12. The dirt road will begin to curve and you will curve left and down into a very large dry riverbed. Cross it and keep going.
13. Eventually you will come to a fork in the road (see photo 2). There is some black-paint graffiti on a rock. Both choices go to the same place. They re-join just around the bend. Choose the left way, because the right is very steep. When you choose the left way there is a shrine/altar and a low dip where a normal car will drag. Cross it and keep going.
14. Just keep going until you see the homemade sign for Tsegyalgar West on the right. Drive up the driveway
until you come to a wire cattle gate. Open it, drive thru, and close it behind you.
15. You will see a sign on the right that says showers/duchas. Drive past it and park on the roadside. Walk a few hundred feet
to the palapa-covered kitchen. The office is down the hill to the right in the 5th casita.
